Not a joke: Islanders considering Yashin

From Greg Logan of Newsday:

Agent Marc Gandler, who represents Yashin, said he last spoke with Snow on
Thursday when there was no progress toward an agreement. Snow previously
indicated plans to move forward with a youth movement next season, but the
Islanders ranked 29th in scoring in the 30-team
NHL last season and lack depth at center, leading him to at least consider the possibility of re-signing the 35-year-old Yashin, who spent last season with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv in the Russian Superliga.

"We've had discussions," Gandler told Newsday. "But it's been very slow because I told them in the beginning how much I wanted. They're obviously not happy about that. But clearly, they missed him. They didn't have a first line last season."

Read more about this story here.

Is it April Fools day? Seriously, this is ridiculous. How can this team even consider bringing Yashin back?? I'm speechless.

EURO CURVE

Euro Curve takes a look at the latest international hockey news.

- Jean-Guy Trudel has signed with Lugano of the Swiss A League. Trudel was playing with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League. Trudel is a veteran of the Swiss Hockey circuit, having spent the last four seasons skating with Ambri-Piotta, scoring 27 goals and 26 assists in 44 games in 2006'07. Trudel was an extremely gifted scorer as a junior ( 121 points in 1995'96 with the Hull Olympiques) who never established himself as an everyday NHLer, playing in only a handful of NHL games.

- Andy Chiodo, Selected 2003 by Pittsburgh round 7 #199 overall has signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslav of the Russian Super League. He joins the likes of Washington Capitals goaltending prospect Semen Varlamov, Devils forward prospect Alexander Vasyunov and Alexei Yashin on the team. He comes to Lokomotiv via transfer from HPK of the SM-Liiga. Chiodo split the 2006'07 season between HPK and Jokerit after toying between the AHL and ECHL for two seasons within the Pittsburgh Penguins minor league system.

-Hnat Domenichelli has left HC Ambri-Piotta to join Trudel, signing with Swiss powerhouse Lugano. Domenichelli was a top player for Ambri-Piotta, averaging over 55 points a season over the past four seasons. Domenechelli has made quite a name for himself overseas in Switzerland as he regularly finds himself among the league scoring leaders and is a staple in the December Spengler Cup tournament, along with fellow Canucksters Stacy Roest and Landon Wilson.
