Will Sakic be back?

Terry Frei of the Denver Post: "Last week, Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere again said he wasn't going to push Sakic, who will turn 39 on July 7, for a decision. But it likely will come in the next month as the front office assesses its signing strategy and salary cap situation — both before and after the opening of the unrestricted free agency period July 1. If he decides to return, he almost certainly would sign another one-year contract with Colorado, shooting to be with one franchise for his entire career, like the other No. 19 and longtime captain in the Colorado-Detroit rivalry."

Here is the entire article courtesy of the Denver Post.

This is a great article by Frei. Reading how much respect Red Wings center Kris Draper has for Sakic is interesting but in no way surprising. As for Sakic's possible return, I believe that the slippery center will return for another season. Not only can Sakic be a leader in the dressing room, but he can still play the game at an extremely high level.
