Nashville not planning on being active in free agency

From John Glennon of the Tennessean:

In any case, it's unlikely the Predators will be big spenders when free agency begins July 1. They probably won't have the money.

"I don't think there's too much left,'' Poile said. "We've had a lot of salary increases, big increases. The main focus from December until today has been to stabilize and keep the nucleus and foundation of the team.

"For the most part, we've accomplished that. But there's a dollar figure you need to put to that.''

The Predators have spent their money in-house re-signing their own young free agents. They now have a lot of their younger players under contract through at least 2010-2011 and David Poile should be commended for putting a core together that should be able to compete at a high level for the foreseeable future.
