Illegal Curve has been closely monitoring the story regarding CBC's Hockey Night in Canada (HNIC) theme song as it now appears that the 40 year-old jingle (DUH-DUH-da-da-DUH) written by Dolores Claman has seen it's last day on the publicly funded network.
According to CBC's official website, Copyright Music & Visuals, the company who represents Claman, were unable to reach a deal with CBC over the rights to the theme music. It now appears that CBC Sports will hold a national contest in collaboration with Nettwerk Music Group to a find a new tune for their signature show, HNIC.
This is the most recent story posted on CBC's website (9:19 p.m. E.T. )http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2008/06/06/coderre-verner-themesong.html
