Holik has not been contacted by Thrashers

From Mike Knobler of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

The Thrashers' search for new leaders might not end when they find a coach.
Captain Bobby Holik expects to be playing for another NHL team next season.

Holik, 37, becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1 if he remains unsigned by the Thrashers. He said "there's absolutely no effort on their part" to sign him.

"I'm pretty much resigned to the fact I'm not going to be part of their future," Holik said Wednesday. "I've got to look forward.

"It doesn't hurt me. I feel bad for some of the younger players, because they're going to have a third captain in three years, very likely."

Read the entire entry here.

It doesn't make any sense for the Thrashers to sign the 37 year old Holik. This team needs to let its young players gain some experience. Holik is a better fit on a contender that needs a 3rd line checking center. Calgary anyone?

Ballhype: hype it up!

You mean a team that needs an ineffective 3rd line centre:

I did read that before and it presents a fair argument. But I see Holik being far more effective on a winning team that asks him to focus on defense and face-offs. The Thrashers and Rangers relied too heavily on qualities he didn't possess.
