Wings re-sign Ericsson

From John Niyo of the Detroit News:

The Wings have locked up one of their remaining free agents, agreeing to terms on a three-year contract with defenseman Jonathan Ericsson . The two-way deal is worth about $2.7 million if Ericsson remains in the NHL but pays him less -- and doesn't count against the Wings' salary cap -- if he's playing for Grand Rapids in the American Hockey League.

Read more about the Ericsson re-signing here.

The Red Wings really do have an embarrassment of riches at all positions. The team has the likes of Derek Meech, Jonathan Ericsson, and Kyle Quincey all in the AHL for a prolonged period of time, developing their game. Due to the team's current defensive depth, the Wings can bring these defensemen along slowly and ensure they are ready for full-time NHL duty when the time comes.
